40 Days of Prayer: Day 35
Today’s blog was written by Ted Johnson.
PLEASE INDULGE ME FOR JUST A MOMENT. . .
Please do not read this too casually or you may think I am bragging. That is not it at all, if anything, I’m bragging on Jesus and what he can and will do for people who let Him in their lives.
Last Monday, I celebrated my 68th birthday. Everyone of those 68 years have been blessed. Not because I’ve been worthy of it but because of two main reasons.
First, no man or woman is self-made as some like to think. We are all products of bits and pieces from outside of ourselves. The word says to never think more highly of ourselves than we ought (Romans 12:3). In other words, lean not unto our own understanding but in all things trust the Lord (Proverbs 3:5). Once we establish that we need to depend on someone bigger than us, we begin to walk in a good direction.
Second, God tells us that he sends His blessings on countless generations of those who love Him (Exodus 20:5). I was blessed to be born into a Christian family on both my Mother’s & Father’s side. There were Christians up the line before them. I was further blessed to have God send me a beautiful woman who was a Christian and both sides of her family as well. We then simply had to choose to serve God for ourselves to enjoy an unbroken spiritual legacy that began way before us.
When we began our family (almost 49 yrs ago) we made the decision that: ‘as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord’ (Joshua 24:15). Today, we have three sons and three daughter-in-laws that we couldn’t be prouder of. Each of our grandchildren have been raised in Christian homes and around Christian influence all of their lives. This means they have an above average chance of accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior also.
I am not a perfect man, father, husband, son-in-law, grandfather, or friend but I am far better than I would be had I not accepted Jesus as my Savior. The only personal thing I can be proud of is the right choice I made by saying yes to Jesus (and even that was influenced by peoples prayers, I am sure). You have the same opportunity for blessings on your life—He is no respecter of persons. You can choose to continue a spiritual legacy or start one yourself. If you haven’t done either of these, please do so today. If you have already, praise God for what He will do for us in this life and what a blessed Hope we have afterward to come! The rest of that verse in Joshua says: ‘choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. . .’
I trust that it will truly be a Wonderful Christmas at your house this year because of the presence of Jesus Himself who permeates every fiber of your being and that of your family!
Thank you for reading. Now, please go to our Prayer Wall and pray for the needs there. You may also add your own needs.
