40 Days of Prayer: Day 5
Today’s blog was written by Ted Johnson. It is the second part of seven posts on the Lord’s Prayer.
The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6: 9-13)
“Our Father in Heaven…”
Each of us has an earthly father that played a part in us being birthed on this earth. We each also have God as our Creator who caused our earthly birth to be possible. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we become entitled to look upon God as our Heavenly Father – what a privilege! For some of us, it is hard to impossible to relate positively to a father figure because of previous hurts and disappointments. We must get past these hangups in order to fully enjoy the blessings and peace that comes from knowing God as our Heavenly Father. Learning to lean and rely on Him brings such release and assurance to our hearts and souls.
Begin by listing every good thing you’ve seen in a father plus everything you wish were part of a father’s makeup – love, patience, kindness, wisdom, etc. Then understand that God is all of these and so much more. He is able to keep you in His care and provide all that your life has need of. There is ‘peace of mind’ and ‘joy unspeakable’ in living a life dependent upon Him. What an assurance and privilege it is to direct all of our prayers unto ‘Our Father in Heaven’.
